Obituary of Michael Thomas Davidson

On Saturday, August 29th, Michael Thomas Davidson, 82 of Afton passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Mae Perro and Charles Davidson. Michael was born and raised in Afton and was actively involved in his parish and community. He was a member of St. Peters Parish Tracadie, as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Choir Member; the Holy Name Society, Parish Council and Beavers Club. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Secular Order, the Happy Tracadonians Seniors Club, Antigonish and Area Crime Prevention as well as past president of Antigonish Guysborough Senior’s Council. In 2007 he and his wife, Shirley, were named most remarkable seniors for volunteerism in Nova Scotia. Michael worked in landscaping, construction and retired as a school bus driver with the Antigonish District School Board. He was happiest spending time with family and friends. Michael loved playing cards, cheering for the Leafs, working in his garden, reminiscing about the good old days and making sure the wood stove was full. Michael is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Delorey); daughters Veronica (Denis), Joanne (Ian), Cathy, Susan (Johnnie), Monica (David), Margaret (Jeff), and Barbara Ann (Jimmy). He is also survived by grandchildren Marsha, Patricia, Anne, Katie, Margaret, Laura, Richard, Cody, Jacob, Jamie and Ben; as well as many nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by brothers Peter, Francis, and Mark; and sisters Edna Rogers, Eileen Benoit, and Helen. Michael’s smile will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm Tuesday, September 1st, and 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015 at MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peters Parish, Tracadie, on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 at 10:30 am with Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial following at the Parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St Martha’s Palliative Care Services or the V.O.N..
