Obituary of Allan Ignatius MacGillivary
MacGillivary, Allan Ignatius, 60 years, of Sydney River and William’s Point, Antigonish County. It is with tremendous sorrow and lonesome hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, our inspiration, on May 14, 2014 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Antigonish he was a son of the late John Angus (Jack the Cop) and Mary Ellen (Connors) MacGillivary.
Allan was a client at the Breton Ability Centre, a home for special needs. His mantra was to be kind to everyone he came in contact with. That he did wholeheartedly. A ready smile, a firm handshake and a hardy laugh was his signature. His avid recall for details and dates was amazing. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, a drive, a much loved coffee or pop, spending time with his extended family, the clients at his home, and watching enthusiastically his hockey and ball games. However most importantly he lived for the visits and phone calls to and from his family. The love he shared was so intangible. An indelible print was left on the hearts of many.
He is survived by sisters, Catherine (Al) Kozyk, Edmonton, Mary Theresa (Jim) Scriver, Yorkton, SK, Rebecca (Art) Lausch, Dartmouth, Janice (Greg) Fraser, William’s Point, brothers Jim (Gladys), William’s Point, Kevin (Ruby), Antigonish, John (Paula), Edmonton, Vincent, Edmonton, Donald (Mary Anne), Dartmouth, Coady, (Kim), Frankford, ON. Sister-in-law Veronica MacGillivary, Antigonish, special aunts, uncles, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Joseph Daniel "Dody", nine brothers and sisters, niece Ellie MacGillivary.
A gracious thank you to the staff and his buddies at the Breton Ability Centre for your love, care and generosity you offered so readily and freely to Allan, and to us his family. Your devotion to him has been deeply appreciated and unforgettable. A commended thank you to the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Staff.
