Obituary of Mary Catherine MacGregor
With a spirit of faith and hope, we announce that Mary Catherine MacGregor died at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish on June 25th, 2014.
Born in Upper Springfield on November 16, 1910; she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah MacGillivray Duggan.
In 1931 she married John MacMillan MacGregor of Upper South River where they operated a large farm and raised their family. A seamstress, she clothed her family and a varied clientele and continued to knit until shortly before her death.
A devout Catholic, she was President of the (then) Lochaber Parish C.W.L. for years. She was a founding member of the Order of St. Francis. Before retirement, she and her husband spent some time as custodians for St. Patrick's Glebe House and Parish Church. Following retirement, she had since belonged to St. Andrew's C.W.L.
She is survived by daughters Jean Kennedy, South Side Harbour, Antigonish Co., and Margaret MacDonald, Antigonish; daughter -in-law Marion MacGregor, Lochaber; as well as nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John, daughter Helen, son Jack, and granddaughter Colleen as well as sons-in-law Charles Kennedy and Alexander MacDonald.
Visitation will be held on Sunday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at MacIsaac's Funeral Home, Antigonish. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Monday at St. Patrick's' Church, Lochaber with her great-nephew Rev. Thomas Murphy presiding; with burial in the Parish Cemetery.
