Alfred MacKinnon

Obituary of Alfred Leonard MacKinnon

Alfred “Bud” Leonard MacKinnon, 91, passed away Sunday April 22, 2018 in the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Bud was born April 18, 1927 to Alfred and Margaret (MacDonald) MacKinnon in the Ohio; he was the second youngest of five brothers.

Bud left the Ohio to begin working in the mines in Northern Ontario with his two brothers Mallie and Joe. After his time with the mines, Bud worked at various jobs from driving bus in Sarnia, Ontario to working with Hydro Ontario in Southern Ontario where he was part of a conversion project changing over power supply.

Bud found his passion was in sales and began a long career as a salesman in Ontario. He eventually specialized and worked in the East Coast region of Canada for the majority of his working life. His work was promoting a business directory for a company called Mike Directories. Bud had created an impressive portfolio of clients and was ranked top salesman in his Region. His work in this area brought him into contact with most businesses, small and large, in the East Coast business community.

Bud’s love of the Ohio and the East Coast eventually pulled him permanently back home where he lived the latter part of his life on his family’s farm. He was happiest in the Ohio.

Bud was a stylish man preferring to wear red most days, with red turtlenecks or red shirts being his clothing of choice. Season dictated the style of shirt.

Bud loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was actively involved in his parish church, St. Joseph’s and volunteered his time at the church working on beautifying the graveyard. Bud also participated in selling tickets for Parish and Community events.

Bud is survived by his wife Dorie MacKinnon; sons Scott (Rosi), Craig (Shona), daughter Michele (Jamie), son Neil (Keely), numerous grandchildren, great-granddaughters, nieces nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Mallie, Rod, Joe and Francis.
