Words cannot adequately express our heartfelt condolences. We have fond and cherished memories of our time spent together during the many IWK Tournaments in Halifax, as well as Stevie's stellar representation on behalf of Gulf NS fishermen at ALPAC. His points were always well-founded, and delivered with consideration and respect for everyone present. The Memorial Video spoke volumes of the fine and caring man we knew him to be. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mary, family and his many, many friends. We will miss Stevie, and always hold his memory in high esteem.

There are no words that can express the tragic death of Stevie and the monumental impact it has on family, good friends, community and the global Tuna Industry. He was my ex brother in law who I always respected, cared for and looked up to as a strong, kind, thoughtful and example as how a man should be.
Stevie died doing exactly what he loved most and just as he was a fisherman's mentor in life he is even more so in death. Left behind are the most wonderful wife, children, grand children, good friends and more. Stevie touched everyone's lives for the better.
He will live on in the hearts and minds of us all and is therefore with us.

Lou and I send our deepest condolences.
Though we can not claim to have been close friends, we always came away from dinners at Vince’s with talk on the drive home about what lovely people you Mary and Stevie are, such solid, gentle and warm people. Those evenings were made better every time with you both there and we spoke about our children often. Seeing those slides today just confirmed what we felt. A family man and obviously someone who relished his role as a Dad and grandfather. Daniel, Shaun and Carrie you couldn’t have had a better role model and we hope his love and the good memories will help you through the tough days to come.
Our memories that will stay with us when we think of Stevie, will be of his happy and easy smile.

I offer sincerest condolences to all of Stevie's friends and family.
Stevie was one of the kindest men I have ever known. I have many fond memories of being around Stevie during my childhood. I clearly remember Stevie heading out to recover our boat after it capsized in July 1989. He rescued Dave MacLellan and Sean Baker, then went right back out there to get our boat. Having the boat back so soon helped me get right back in the water and move on from the events of that scary night. I saw him briefly this summer as I swam off the wharf in Arisaig. He asked me me if the water was warm. There he was, as I always remember, taking out a crew of grateful friends and family for some pleasure boating on a warm July afternoon. This is how I will remember him.
Even though I am far from home, I can sense the community pulling together to support Mary and the family. Rest in Peace, Stevie.

Stevie pulled me from my car during a snow storm when I first arrived in Nova Scotia. He was on his way to get his snow plow and saw me in a ditch in North Grant. My blood sugar had fallen so low I don't remember the event. He took me home and then called Jack Teasdale, his co-worker. Jack and Gertie Teasdale called me to tell me what happened. I wasn't dressed properly for a Nova Scotia winter. If it wasn't for Stevie I would be another roadside statistic. What a tragic loss to the community!

My deepest condolences to Stevie's entire family on the loss of a very good man. It was Stevie who was the first boat (in his role of Auxiliary Coast Guard) from the wharf at Arisaig in July 1989, when Allan (Almac) MacDonald's boat sunk on the way back from PEI. On board were Allan (Almac) & his son Paul, as well as Shawn Baker, Darrell (Collie A.) MacDonald & my brother Dave MacLellan. They searched from approx. 10.30pm until 2.30am the next morning. Allan & Paul swam to shore & came into where Runnalls live on the border between Arisaig & Doctors Brook at 2am. Within a half hour, the late John Ross & Stevie & others were able to locate the other boaters, as they became aware of where the sunken pleasure boat lay. As family, we remain forever grateful to Stevie & the late John Ross & others for their actions that July evening & early morning back 29 years ago in July 1989.

I am so sad to hear of the tragic loss of such a wonderful neighbor. Stevie touched everyone he met in that very special way that so few have the gift to do. His love for his family and his community and for everything he did in life is what made him who he was. I remember one fall shortly after I moved to Arisaig. It was in October when the leaves were brilliant and I was heading up the 245 heading to the airport to watch Eric run at The Toronto Watefront race. I got out to take pictures. Stevie stopped to see if everythig was ok. I told him the only thing wrong was that I may miss my plane because it I couldn't stop myself from taking pictures of this beautiful area. Stevie said he was also heading to the airport to visit his family out west. But that was the type of guy he was. Stopoing to help his neighbors. Concerned and putting others first was who he was. Thank you Stevie for making our community and our people a wondeful place to live. My heart goes out to you Mary and to all of the family.

It was an honor to have known Stevie as my coach, neighbour and community mentor. Mary, Dan, Carrie, Shaun and grandkids, we can't explain or reason the events of Saturday but want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. Stevie impacted a great many lives through his work in the community and in sport, we have lost a friend, mentor, husband, father & grandpa. You will be missed immensely Stevie!!!! When I think of Stevie and his passion for the sea makes me think of the following quote from Vincent Van Gogh:
"The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but
they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore"

So very sorry that things like this happen. It should not have happened to a family as close and good as yours. Should not happen to any family. He was always a dad I looked up to. I remember him as a 5 year old playing ball with Dan. And i always kind of thought of him in that light. He was Stevie MacInnis. He was one of the dads i knew i wanted to be like with my kids. Like Bernie Bo or Lauchie or Everett. All thought of their family first. What a legacy he leaves in Arisaig and Antigonish. He was a good man who died doing what he absolutely lived for. He will be missed tremendously. Jes and I and Drew and Taylor are very sorry you all did not have more time with him. But what great times you did have with him !
