My heartfelt sympathy to Allan and your entire family on the loss of Valerie. She was so devoted to family and very proud of all your accomplishments.
I only met Valerie in Dec. 2008, when canvassing our neighbourhood hoping someone owned a large group of freezing, starving cats. Valerie immediately committed to helping them, and thus began an alliance of many years, full of adventures, challenges, successes and unbelievable happenings. Valerie always showed up and worked hard regardless of convenience, and was so kind and generous. She laughed easily at the ridiculous situations we found ourselves in, and often said that we should write a book. I will always smile at the memories, though heartbreak was our frequent companion. It is my companion now as I mourn the loss of a true giver; a wise, pragmatic, proud and independent woman who had to endure a very cruel disease. I am happy that Valerie is now at peace, but very sad that she and those who love her suffered so much. My heart goes out to all the MacIsaacs and MacGillivrays at this very difficult time. Rest in eternal peace, my faithful friend. You were an inspiration and I will never forget you.

Heaven has gained another angel.. Valerie, I'm sad to hear you've gained your angel wings. Thinking of you Allan, all of her children and grandchildren and siblings as well as anyone who knew her. She was my sidekick for most of the work I did with Homeless Cat Allies. She and I could tell you so many stories of trapping feral cats and kittens etc. I will cherish my memories of you... May you rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

Dear Alan: We are saddened to learn of Valerie's recent passing and send along our condolences and sympathy to you and Heather and all your family.
As one who has attended every Highland Games since 1953 I am very aware of Valerie's undying loyalty and support for the Games..especially the Dancers and the Piping when Heather became involved in that part of the Games. She was a 'fixture' and a leader and was a valued member of the Games family, who will be deeply missed but long remembered by all those whose lives she touched, and there were many!
Sending along a silent bagpipe lament Flowers of the Forrest to her cherished memory.
Sincerely,
JackMacIsaac

I last saw Valerie a couple of years ago, appropriately at the Maritime Inn where whoever from the Mighty 36 was available showed up on Friday or on any other day when someone came to town. Having just a couple of hours in Antigonish, I called one classmate who called others and the end result was lunch with 8 dear friends, one of whom was Valerie. These are the friendships where one truly does pick up where one left off the last time we met. Valerie was such a friend and that day was, as usual, warm, friendly and interested in those around her. She was treasured by all and her memory will continue to be. She created a large and caring family and will be missed greatly.
