Doris MacGillivray of 42 Hillcrest St., Antigonish was born in Antigonish on March 24, 1925, the daughter of the late Jack and Margaret "Bibby" (Wilmot) MacGillivray. She was predeceased by brothers Ronald and Charlie Joe and sisters Mary and Anna Claire Shand.

Doris attended Mount St. Bernard School in Antigonish. After finishing high school in 1942 Doris joined the staff of the Royal Bank in Antigonish where she worked for 38 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the St. Martha's Hospital Ladies Auxillary and was quite involved in the annual bazaars. Doris was an active member of St. Ninians parish. When she was 17 years old she was asked by the parish priest to look after the counting and banking of the Sunday collections, a job she retired from on her 90th birthday.

Doris was a warm and loving person who had a wonderful relationship with her family, extended family and friends. She built her life around them. She enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage in Lakevale (up until two years ago) where many family and friends gathered over the years. She enjoyed reading, crafting, quilting, jigsaw, crossword and any other kind of puzzle she could find in the daily paper.

When her health began to fail, about five years ago, Doris was blessed to have the wonderful care of the Antigonish and Area Homemakers, the VON and Dr. Elizabeth Cooper as well as the doctors and nurses who attended to her on her many trips to St. Martha's Hospital, also EMS paramedics when called upon.

Doris began a new chapter in her life on May 12th when she was welcomed as a resident of Hi-Crest Sherbrooke where she remained until her death on September 21st. We are thankful for the excellent care and friendship extended by both the staff and residents at the home.

Doris is survived by her brother Fr. Angus MacGillivray, sisters-in-law Helen and Jean MacGillivray, Antigonish; nieces, Barbara (Frank) Moeller, Wilmington, NC; Carol Anne (late Les) Campbell, Stephenville, NL; Sheila Shand (Scott) Webster, Chicago, IL; Ann (Rob) Peet, Edmonton, AB; Catty (Steve) Nault, Kanata, ON; nephews Ronald, Andrew (Karen), Antigonish; Richard (Lorraine), Riverview, NB; and Jay, Toronto, ON.
