Obituary of Allan Francis Gillis

Allan Francis Gillis, 93, of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2016, with his family by his side. Born March 13, 1923 in Southwest Margaree, he was the son of Mariah and John Alex Gillis. He is survived by his brother Simon and wife Helen of Dartmouth, his sister Margaret Gillis of Dartmouth and is predeceseased by his brother Patrick , sister Helen and two sisters in infancy and his wife Mary Beatrice MacDonald. He leaves behind his wife Mary Florence Gillis and her family and he was the loving father of: Stephen Gillis and his wife Donna of Boston, Brian Gillis of Antigonish and Brenda Cook and her husband Malcolm of Halifax. Cherished grandfather of Danielle Gillis and Jennifer Stark and adored great-grandfather of Taylor and Everly Stark. Allan was in construction in Ontario, Boston and the Maritimes. He was also an active volunteer in the community with the Antigonish Food Bank, Palliative Care and the Red Cross as well as several other local organizations. His most treasured pastimes include playing the violin and sharing his love of music with his close friends. He was beloved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Visitation 5-8 pm Wednesday, May 18 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11:00am Thursday, May 19 in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Arisaig. Donations to the Antigonish Food Bank.
