Obituary of Patrick James MacCormick

Patrick James MacCormick, age 66, died May 29, 2022 in St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish due to a compromised immune system and exposure to Covid. He was dearly loved by all his family and many who knew him for his generous and thoughtful character and desire to serve his community. Patrick completed a degree in mechanical engineering with further studies in the Masters program at the Technical University of Nova Scotia.

A member of St.  Ninian’s Parish, Patrick actively served in many roles including as  sacristan. He also participated in his community as a member of several committees in his housing complex, as a fourth degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus involved in fundraising and community meals for the needy and in providing transportation for many friends who needed help. He was keenly interested in others, loved a fun story and had a remarkable memory for family connections of all those he met. He was an enthusiastic golfer, hiker and contributor to family and community social activities.

He is survived by his brothers, John (Sheila), Michael (Brenda Ryan), Graham (Connie) and Keith (Joanne Corkum) and sister Katherine. He was a kind uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. John and Thirza MacCormick and sister Thirza.

There will be no visitation at this time. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am Friday, June 3, 2022 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Rev. Danny MacLennan presiding. A gathering and burial will be held at a later date when Covid is no longer a hazard in the community. 

The family would like to thank the healthcare team at St Martha’s Regional Hospital for their care and support during Patrick’s final days. Patrick, we’re sure, would want to thank them all as well.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Chalice Canada or to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia may be made.
