Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Walsh
Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Walsh, nee Kinch, died on September 27, 2022 in St Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, NS, age 92. Betty/Mom devoted her life to children and dedicated her life to teaching, caretaking and spending quality time as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (and was fondly loved as “Gram” and “Betty” to many).
Mom was always a quick phone call away and filled every conversation with Irish wit and wisdom, quick to laugh and tease. An expert debater, she could argue most topics with ease and always stood by her word – a trait she passed down through three generations. She was always ready to gather for a game of cards, crib or checkers, and her “table-talk” has set the bar for many games to come. She loved getting the daily news and weather updates from PEI, Ontario and Alberta. Fashion was a hobby – whether she was creating it or commenting on it, she loved seeing the latest trends from Toronto and Halifax. She was dedicated to her faith, could quote the Butler Catechism, and was a lifelong learner.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Walsh, Cardigan PEI and will be lovingly remembered by children Brian (Diane) Walsh, Bonnyville Alberta; Cathy (Ramsay Duff) Walsh, Antigonish; Barry (Colleen) Walsh, Montague, PEI; Carol Anne (John) May, Halifax; Brenda (Sean) Garrett, Timberlea.
She is survived by her twin brother Benedict (Benny) Kinch, Tignish, PEI and brother James (Jimmy) Kinch, Scarborough; sisters-in-law Isabel Kinch, Sandra Kinch and Evelyn Walsh. Betty was predeceased by eight siblings: Robert, Sr. Jeanette, Paul, Barbara, David, Danny, Eugene and Mary.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Celeste, Nicole (Evan), Danielle (Garet), Robbie (Olivia), Andrew (Cass), Alyson (Spencer), Elizabeth (Marcus), Peter (Hannah), Abby, and Ethan; her great-grandchildren Maisie, Isla, Sophia, Whitney; and many much loved nieces and nephews in BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, United States and Spain.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 from 7-9 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 2:00 pm in St. Ninian Cathedral, Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in St. Ninian's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ninian Cathedral Parish Religious Education Fund.
