Obituary of Marjorie Rita Armsworthy
Marjorie Rita (Bowie) Armsworthy
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Marjorie. She was born just after WWI, at the old Bowie homestead, built in the 1780’s, located in Havendale, Guysborough county. Marjorie taught in a one room schoolhouse in Guysborough County. After a few years she decided that she no longer wished to teach and moved to Halifax. During World War II, Marjorie worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" repairing airplanes at Clark Ruse Aircraft Ltd. in Dartmouth. In the early 1950's she married Charles Armsworthy. She supported him in their business ventures.
Marjorie was a private person yet her door was always open. A hot teapot on the woodstove and her homemade molasses cookies were always a welcoming sight. She loved playing cards, especially with her siblings. Marjorie was a devout Catholic. She was a great believer in education as she supported and encouraged her family to succeed.
Marjorie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Ellen (Dunphy) Bowie. Marjorie is survived by her children: Allan, Diane, James, Gerard, Donna, Neil, Blair, and their families. She was predeceased by husband, Charles, brothers Leo, Kenneth, William, Basil and sisters Margaret, Eleanor, Edith, Elizabeth, Agatha and Catherine .
In honour of Marjorie's wishes there will be no visitation. As requested by Marjorie, a mass will be celebrated in St Ninian’s Cathedral on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in St. Ninian's Cemetery. Reception to follow at the John Paul Centre, 308 Main Street at 12:30 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Guysborough Intervale or to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
