December 15th, 2022
We were shocked and saddened to learn through a Christmas card from our cousin Moe Smith, of the passing of our dear friend, Ronnie D.D.
My friendship with Ronnie spanned almost half a century, beginning with my move to Antigonish in 1973. During those 49 years we made so many memories. With Christmas approaching, my mind travels back to my annual Boxing Day ping pong tournaments on Ponderosa Drive. Ronnie was always an enthusiastic participant. Rick MacKinnon, Duncan Chisholm, Dougie MacLellan, Ronnie and I enjoyed many laughs. For many years we had a wonderful time playing together on the Jury-Men softball team. Once a month Ronnie, Dougie, Moe Smith, Rod Chisholm, Danny MacIsaac and I, together with our wives, would gather at each other’s houses, each couple providing a special meal.
In more recent years my wife and I were so pleased when Ronnie travelled to Springhill for our wedding. A few months ago he called and we had a wonderful conversation, reminiscing about our past exploits.
Had I known about his passing in time, we would have made every effort to attend his service. I was pleased to know that some of the old crowd was in attendance but disappointed that I was not there to share in the memories and to pay tribute to a very good friend. Ronnie was a character, so full of life and energy; he will be greatly missed.
With sincere condolences,
Elaine & Clarence Falconer

So very, very sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. I was away in Israel at the time. Had spoken to Ronnie not long before leaving on our trip and never expected to get this news while we were gone. May God be with all of you and comfort you during this sorrowful time.
Myrna always said how much she loved the way he could make her laugh. So grateful for their time together.
May your Dad RIP! God bless you all! Anna & Kevin Garland and family.

To the DD MacDonalds:
I was very sad to learn of Ronnie DD's death. I liked him very much and enjoyed his wit and companionship. He was a worthy ambassador for the spirit of Antigonish and a great character.
Perhaps one day his collected 'Rory' articles will be edited in book form. As the French say it was a 'secret de Polichinelle', well known, but never acknowledged. That was part of the fun.
I reckon that in a single volume they would make an interesting read.
I shall miss Ronnie, as I am sure you will as well.
Yours most sincerely,
Edward M. Langille

We will miss Ronnie - he was a good man and our many conversations about a variety of subjects
in which he had deep knowledge will be cherished. Our many gatherings on Pleasent Street and
throughout Antigonish brings back very fond memories which will stay with us forever. We were
fortunate to be a part of Ronnie and his family's life. Our deepest sympathies to the Ronald A.

Ray and I will miss your Dad and Grand Dad. Ronnie was always up for a chat and so were we. His store dressed both of us for many years and later he returned the favor hanging out at Little Christo's. Hugs to you all. He loved to talk about you.

Deepest regrets to family and friends in the loss of a very special and unique person. As a child to me he seemed larger than life when we'd visit the family home and his voice full of curiosity and genuine interest in every conversation. A great loss of a one-of-a-kind individual.

Ronnie was a very kind, friendly, well-meaning man who was genuinely interested in others. He was unique, creative and able to spontaneously gift us with some memorable moments on stage at Theatre Antigonish. His knowledge of history and culture was phenomenal! I never knew about many of his outstanding accomplishments until I read his obituary, though he could easily have talked about them in our conversations.
My sincere condolences to all of Ronnie’s family. May he rest in eternal peace.

We are saddened to hear of Ronnie's passing but realize he is at peace. Our thoughts of Ronnie are filled with fond memories and smiles. Our parents were next door summer cottage neighbors at Mahoney's beach. Swimming, singing, highland dancing, bonfires, sports, family trips to competitions, clan gatherings, etc. were shared by both the MacDonald's and MacInnis's.
May God's embrace surround all of you at this sad time and may you rely on the love and support of family & friends to see you through.
Blessings to you Moira & Phyllis, now and in the days to come as you mourn and celebrate a special life. Martha E. Cormier(MacInnis)

My family is very sorry to hear the passing of Mr. MacDonald. It was just today I was getting out my winter things and one is a camel coloured dress jacket. It was a jacket I needed for work and couldn’t afford. He gave me 10% off put it on the back until I could afford to pay for it four weeks later. That was 30 years ago. Condolences to the family.
