Dear Sisters, I loved Sr. Joan's gracious and insightful presence. She was a wise mentor, and a kind and deeply caring person whom I admired very much. She was also a very gifted pastoral minister. I offer you my sincere condolences for the loss of such a wonderful member of the congregation. Joan's faithfulness will abide in my memory always. I know she is in the arms of the One in whom she entrusted her life. With love to you all, Beth McIsaac

In pleasant memory of Sister Joan.
Sister Joan and the writer grew up on Chapel Hill (Main St) Glace Bay in the 1940-50 era. In fact, I was 3 years younger than Joan and learned to drive her two-wheeled "ladies" bicycle since I could not afford a bike in our family of ten children. Last year, on my "Saltwiire" newspaper subscription I saw Sister Joan's photo displayed in the "Casket" for her unselfish volunteer work. Within a day or so I telephoned her from my home in Ottawa and we had an interesting chat about genealogy and growing up in the "Bay,"
God bless Sister Joan. One of God's gifts to the world

Sister Joan will be remembered as a brilliant, kind, compassionate supporter of Healthcare, Diocesan parishes and families and as a genuine trailblazer. She was a constant bedside presence with both patients and families in St. Rita Hospital, as well as in her work as Religious Education leader and in outreach across our Country. May she rest gently! I was saddened to learn of Sister Joan’s passing. She was a compassionate and wise leader and contributed greatly to the mission of Stfx. Her counsel was sought on many occasions and for many issues. She was most supportive of my work at the university. She was a great friend and supporter. She’ll be deeply missed by many in the Stfx community.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all on the loss of Sister Joan.

I have worked at Parkland since it opened and it was the new Bethany. Sr. Joan and I had a special connection (she loved the Toronto Blue Jays).. she was always asking to see videos and pictures of my son Logan, who plays Chalenger Baseball and is funded by the Toronto Blue Jays. Some of her quotes that I will not forget are.. ‘yes indeed’, when I entered her room, she would say ‘it is yourself, so glad you are here.. are you working tomorrow?’. Sr. Joan had a special place in my heart, and will be gratefully missed. Sending thoughts and prayers to her family and the Sr’s of St. Martha. Xo Tracy Halloran

I’m so sorry to hear of Sr Joan’s death. She was a great friend to my Mom, Audrey Chiasson and always had a smile and kind word whenever I visited Parkland. I’m sure they are having a great reunion in Heaven. Mom often spoke highly of Sr Joan and her family. They shared a very special past in Glace Bay.

We have lost a wonderful person, a true leader, a kind lady. Personally I was fortunate to have worked with her at St Martha’s. She was a mentor for me for many years. She demonstrated for me the importance of respect and confidentiality in all encounters. Her honesty and care was such a gift for me, something I will always treasure.
In gratitude and Prayer

Dear Sisters and Family,
What a shock and sadness I felt when I read Sr. Joan's obituary. She was a significant woman in my life since her days at Nazareth House as Director of Faith Formation. She listened with compassion and gave me wise advice in some difficult times. We shared laughter and mutual concern for the diocese. She certainly was a great Sister of St Martha and is an integral part of the history of the congregation and this diocese.
My thoughts and prayers are with her and with you in this days.
God bless you all.
Fraternally
Fr. Bedford Doucette
