Obituary of Fidelia Maria MacDonald
Fidelia "Dale" MacDonald, 74, of McArras Brook passed away peacefully in St. Martha's Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 with family by her side.
The youngest of 10 children, Fidelia was born on September 29, 1949 to Petronella (Donkers) and John van de Wiel in Sint-Oedenrode, The Netherlands. When she was one year old the entire family immigrated to Canada and eventually settled on a farm in Meadow Green, Nova Scotia.
After completion of her education at the Dartmouth Vocational School in Nursing, she married Donald "Jack" MacDonald in 1972, marking the beginning of their enduring 51 year marriage. The couple relocated to Truro, Nova Scotia, where they raised their two sons, Daniel (Andrea) and Trevor (MiYoung). Following nearly three decades in Truro, they retired to Jack's childhood home in McArras Brook, Nova Scotia, enjoying a tranquil life in the countryside. She found immense joy in her two grandchildren, Angus and Juno, cherishing them with every fiber of her being.
Fidelia, also known as Delia or Dale to most, took pleasure in crafting and painting. She and her husband Jack dedicated their time to volunteering in the community and were always ready for a warm tea and good chat with family and friends. Delia was endearing and reliable to those she held close as she always found a way to make things better, or at the very least, provide gentle words of wisdom. Her laughter and smile were comforting and will be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Donald "Jack"; sons, Daniel (Andrea) and Trevor (MiYoung); siblings Sisca, Mien, John, Peter, Joe, Albert, Henry; two grandchildren, Angus and Juno. She was predeceased by her parents Petronella and John van de Wiel, brother Tony and sister Rita.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., with funeral mass at 11 am on Friday in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Arisaig. Burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to the Parkinson Society of Nova Scotia or Diabetes Canada.
