Obituary of Abigail Marie MacDonald
It is with great sorrow and fond memories that the family of Abigail MacDonald announces her sudden passing on February 17, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with many health issues.
Abigail was the fifth child born to Roderick (Odgie) and Christena (Cameron) MacDonald, on March 8, 1942. Abigail ws a creative person having spent many years in New York and Florida in the fine arts areas. She was employed by the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York for an extended period of time and was recognized by that company for her quality and knowledge of music. Abigail was a gifted vocal artist in her own right, following in the footsteps of her mother, "Tena". She often attributed her successes to the training she received at Mount Saint Bernard and the good sisters teaching there. In later years she retired and moved to Halifax and later back to Antigonish. She took up residence there with her beloved sisters, Claire and Miriam.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters Claire, Miriam, Beverly MacNeil, brother Kenneth and his wife, Marcie. She is survived by her sister Isabel (John) Tramble, Arisaig; brother-in-law Bill MacNeil, Antigonish; nieces and nephews Ian, Neil, Abigail, Kenneth, Kelly, Roderick, Christine, Denise and Nichole, with whom she always maintained a warm and loving relationship.
The family extends sincere thanks for the many acts of kindness shown to Abigail by the residents of the Court Street apartments, especially Bill and Leanne Pellerin for their friendship and kindness. To the health care providers, thank you for your compassion and patience over the years.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A private funeral mass will be held with burial of ashes in St. Ninian Cemetery at a later date.
