Obituary of William George McConnell

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bill McConnell on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.

Born in Antigonish, NS, in 1940, Bill was the son of Robert and Elizabeth (MacGillivray) McConnell. He had a kind and caring personality and was respected by all who knew him. Bill dedicated 28 years of his life to serving proudly in the RCMP. He loved dogs and for many years, along with his wife, was an active member of a rescue network for Belgian Skips. In recent years, he found solace and companionship at Serenity Senior Living Kanata where he formed a special bond with Winston, the resident dog.

Bill is survived by his brother, Ron, Antigonish; sisters, Connie MacNeil, Halifax; Mary Elizabeth, New Hampshire; Andre, Halifax; Margo Turner, Antigonish; and special sister, Sharron Richards, Toronto. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Hilary; infant brother, Robert; sister, Helen Suzanne; brothers, Bobby and Richard.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of Serenity Senior Living Kanata for their exceptional care of Bill over the past few years, and to the compassionate team of 7th Floor Neurology, Ottawa Civic Hospital, for their ongoing support of Bill during his final days.

A very sincere thank-you is extended to our sister-in-law, Stephanie McConnell, and our nephew Seamus McConnell, for their unwavering support and assistance during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers donations to the SPCA in Bill's memory would be greatly appreciated.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 in St. Ninian Cathedral. Burial in the parish cemetery.
