Obituary of Nadine Margaret Thompson
Nadine Margaret Thompson, age 67, of Halifax, passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit of Dartmouth General Hospital on October 21, 2024. She was born on January 15, 1957, on Long Island, New York, to Alexander and Lavonne (Adamson) Thompson. Nadine was raised in West River, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, the place most dear to her. She graduated from Antigonish Regional High School in 1975 and went on to study early childhood development at Nova Scotia Teachers College. Nadine had a great love of music and throughout her life wrote poetry…simple words about the smallest things that happened to her. Her poems were spare, uncomplicated, and very human. Nadine saw the world in her unique way.
Life dealt Nadine some very difficult health problems which she faced with faith, courage, and grace. She just got on with living. Nadine was a gentle, determined person and was quick to share her insights: unexpected observations which were often hilarious and incredibly astute. When you spent time with her, she would often say something that would make you think she was reading your mind. Nadine loved to laugh. She drew people to her and was generous and kind, displaying her excellent taste by selecting the perfect card and gift for every special occasion.
When you entered Nadine’s home, you were reminded of what is important. Photographs of her family were everywhere, with pictures of her nieces and nephews being most prominent. Steadfast, forgiving, and loyal, she held us with her always. There was no one like Nadine. She will be missed by so many people. We were privileged to have called her daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Nadine is survived by her beloved mother Lavonne, of Antigonish, and her sisters and brothers: Cynthia (Fred), Ellen, Sandy (Tanya), Hugh (Rae), Bruce (Bill), and Janice (Brian). She is also survived by her treasured nieces and nephews: Alexander (Ashley), Elizabeth (Karan), Emily (Sheikh), Djef, Matthew, Kyle (Leslie), Travis, great nephew Alexander, and great nieces Rachel, Freya, and Josie. She was preceded in death by her father Alex, her brother Leonard, her niece Morgan, her maternal grandparents Forbes and Bessie (MacKenzie) Adamson, paternal grandparents James and Mary Ellen (McGibbon) Thompson, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will take place in MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish, on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Funeral service will be held in St. Ninian Cathedral on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial will follow at St. Ninian’s Parish Cemetery. We are deeply grateful to all the wonderful caregivers and people around Nadine who provided support to help her live her life to the fullest.
