Obituary of Florence Sarah Collins

Florence Sarah Collins, of Antigonish, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home following a lengthy illness, in the presence of her husband of 54 years, Donald, and her sister, Kathleen.

Florence with the ninth of 18 children of the late John Alex and Margaret (Blackburn) MacGillivray, Lakevale.

At a very young age, she was welcomed and raised by the late Sadie and Allan R. MacDonald of Arisaig and later joined the home of her late brother, Vincent.

Florence was a graduate of Success Business School and was employed in the offices of St. Francis Xavier University prior to moving to the United States, following her marriage, in July, 1970. While in the United States, she was employed in the head office of the Town of Holbrook School Department, before returning to Canada in 1979. Florence enjoyed painting and photography and took many pictures of the flowers and landscape of our beautiful province.

Florence is survived by her husband Donald; siblings Allan (Debbie); Leo (Donalda); Tony; Kenneth (Kim); Phillip (Joan) ,Kathleen and sisters-in-law Bobbi, Florence and Jean and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by ten brothers, Johnnie, Hugh, Frank, Cyril, Angus, Colin, Vincent, Doug, Gerald and Wayne; one sister Mary; sisters-in-law Janice, Bernadette, Annette and Rita MacGillivray and brother-in-law Charles Knocton.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, November 21st in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Arisaig, Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Florence will truly be missed by countless friends and family members and will never be forgotten.
