Obituary of Alexander Bernard Grant

It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that the family of Alexander Bernard Grant (Alex) of Brierly Brook, announce his peaceful passing on October 1, 2016 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Alex, a man of strong faith and commitment to family, was the son of the late George and Angeline (MacEachern) Grant. An electrician by trade, he worked for Nova Scotia Power until his retirement in 2007. As a young boy, Alex spent his summers with family, playing and working at Cape George. His passions in life were hockey and family. As a player, coach and mentor, he grew up as a proud Antigonish Bulldog who had the opportunity to play Junior hockey with the Cape Breton Metros, leading to a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Whether it was a highland dancing competition, a hockey game, a 4-H event or cross country running, Alex could always be found in the background, quietly yet proudly, supporting his children and grandchildren. Extra excitement and anticipation was always present when Grampie arrived after an event with a cookie and chocolate milk as a treat. Alex was a very kind, generous, loving and positive man who would share, without hesitation, anything he had with others Left with precious memories is his wife of 43 years, Gwen (Hatchette); daughters Shauna and her husband Bryan Smith and their children, Emma, Megan and Oliver; Andrea and her husband Chris Morton and their children, Mathew, Elisabeth, Lucas and Eva; Stephanie,London, England, and Julie and Shane Paris Halifax, NS; loving brothers and sister, Ed (Joan), Dan (Sheila), Doreen and Kevin and foster sister Diane Roberts.
