Obituary of Sarah Catherine Macquarrie
It is with great sadness, the nieces and nephews of Sarah Catherine (Sadie) Macquarrie, aged 100 years, announce her peaceful passing in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home on Friday, May 6, 2022, with family by her side.
Born on February 28, 1922, in Doctor's Brook, Antigonish County, she was the daughter of the late Hector Angus and Mary Elizabeth (Gillis) Macquarrie.
Sarah was a gracious lady of strong faith in God, and proud of her Scottish Heritage. Following her retirement from Hills Department Stores Head Office in Canton, Massachusetts, where she lived and worked for many years, Sadie returned home to Antigonish to be closer to family, in 2003.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, John Stephen (Gertie) and Angus Allan (Jennie), as well as a nephew, Joseph Paul, in infancy.
She is survived by John Stephen's children, Mary (Duncan) MacInnis; Stephen (Geta); Elaine (John) Moar; Sarita (Bill) Landry; Bill (Colleen); Kevin (Lucille) and Angus Allan's children, Marcie (Cabrini); Anne (Rick) Cluett; Joan (David) Crawford; Catherine (Scott) Grady; Johnnie (Ann); Janice; Allan (Francine); Paula and Paul; as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass 2:30 pm in St. Ninian Cathedral, Rev. Danny MacLennan presiding. All attendees are requested to wear a facemask. Burial in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Arisaig. Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery Fund or the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
The family would like to thank the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home for the exceptional love and care provided to Sarah over the last few years. A special thank you to Dr. Michelle Murphy for her care and compassion. www.MacIsaacs.ca
