Condolences to Owen's family and friends. I’ve known Owen for all of my 78 years on this earth. Our Moms were best friends so guess it only natural we would become good friends as well. Owen was one of the nicest, kindest and funniest men I've had the pleasure of knowing. He was as a man of great wit, generosity, talent, compassion & caring. Like his mother, he had an often irreverent but perfectly descriptive and very funny quip for every occasion. I will miss summer evenings spent at the McNeil family home in Lanark with Owen, Margaret Ann and other McNeil family members, being silly and foolish into the wee small hours while laughing until it hurt. Rest in peace dear friend. You’ll be missed.

Dear McNeil family,
It was with sadness that I heard of Owen's recent passing. I offer my sincere condolences. I was lucky enough to have Owen as my English teacher when I attended Graham Creighton High School from 1977-79. My parents had just moved to Cole Harbour from Ontario in 1977 and I really did not know what to expect at Graham Creighton. Owen was one of the first teachers to reach out to me and welcome to his class and the school. I actually liked English literature and Owen only increased my love for studying it. He was a tremendous teacher, motivator and compassionate person. He truly inspired me to continue with my love of literature and I went on to obtain by BA and MA in English literature. I know Owen had this positive effect on many students. I will be eternally grateful to him for being so willing and able to share his love of teaching and literature with so many young minds. He made a difference in my life and the lives of many of my classmates. He will be dearly missed. So many will carry his spirit forward. Take care.

What a wonderful person, who will be missed. Owen and Ron were both my teachers and brought humour into the classroom. I travelled to Spain on a class trip with Owen and he was a tremendous and knowledgeable guide. Absolutely one of my favourite teachers. R.I.P.

As a past student of Owen's and a student who also was on one of the class trips he chaperones, I was able to visit Owen at the hospital on my visit home last month with his dear friend Mike. His smile was contagious. And mischievous wink and bright eyes made me smile. RIP Mr. MacNeil. You can now continue your fun and enjoyable travels with Ron. Condolences to all of your family......Geri (Johnston) Rodgers

Sincere Condolences to the MacNeil family, extended family and friends. I was fortunate to have both Owen and Ron as teachers at Graham Creighton High School back in the mid 70’s. I was able to stop in for a brief visit while he(Owen)was in the Dartmouth General Hospital before his passing, meeting some of the family. Owen was always interim hearing how my mother was doing wham our paths crossed, as she was employed as a secretary at GCHS for a number of years.

Owen was like an uncle to me! One of the funniest people I ever met. A great listener, a great host, and very generous with his time. I have so many fond memories and look forward to gathering with his friends and family to celebrate his life on Tuesday. Thankyou for your friendship, Owen!
